Dixon's My Mind Matters Mental Health Expo

On May 27th, Dixon Educational Learning Academy hosted its annual My Mind Matters Mental Health Expo, organized by school counselor Ms. Mitchell. The event was designed to raise awareness about mental health and encourage students to openly discuss challenges they may face.

Students took center stage by presenting thoughtful speeches on important topics including anxiety, depression, grief, creating healthy boundaries, building self-confidence, managing test stress, dealing with bullies, and practicing positive mental health habits. Their presentations demonstrated courage, compassion, and a commitment to supporting one another.

A special dance performance captivated the audience as students creatively portrayed the stress that can come with testing and the growing transition to a more technology-centered learning environment. The performance highlighted both the challenges students face and the importance of finding healthy ways to cope.

The expo also welcomed a representative from New Oakland Family Centers, who provided valuable mental health resources and shared informational materials and trinkets with students and families.

The My Mind Matters Mental Health Expo was a meaningful and educational event that empowered students to prioritize their well-being, support their peers, and remember that mental health matters every day.
